The Bacterial Diarrhea (Shigella/Cholerae/C.diff) Rapid Test (Feces)is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Shigella Flexneri, Shigella Sonnei, Vibrio cholerae O1, Vibrio cholerae O139, Clostridium dificile GDH, Toxin A and Toxin B in human feces.
Shigella, Salmonella Typhi/Paratyphi, and Clostridium difficile are distinct bacterial pathogens causing significant human illness. Shigella is highly contagious and invades the intestinal lining, causing bacillary dysentery characterized by bloody diarrhea, fever, and severe abdominal pain. It spreads rapidly through the fecal-oral route, particularly in areas with poor sanitation.
Salmonella Typhi and Paratyphi are the causative agents of enteric fever, commonly known as typhoid and paratyphoid. Unlike non-typhoidal Salmonella, these strains cause systemic infections with sustained high fever, headache, and abdominal discomfort, rather than just gastroenteritis. They are exclusively human pathogens and pose significant public health risks in developing regions.
In contrast, Clostridium difficile is an anaerobic, spore-forming bacterium responsible for antibiotic-associated diarrhea and pseudomembranous colitis. It typically infects the colon when the normal gut flora is disrupted by antibiotic use. Accurate diagnosis is essential, as these infections reauire specific antibiotic treatments and infection control measures.
