The Leptospira lgG/IgM Combo Rapid Test (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of lgG and lgM antibodies to Leptospira interrogans in human whole blood, serum or plasma.
Leptospira is a genus of flexible, spiral-shaped, Gram-negative spirochete bacteria known for causing leptospirosis, a globally significant zoonotic disease. These pathogenic bacteria are primarily shed in the urine of infected animals, contaminating water or soil, and are transmitted to humans through contact with contaminated environments, making it a major public health concern, especially in tropical and subtropical regions.
Infection can lead to a wide range of symptoms. The disease often begins with sudden, flu-like manifestations including high fever, severe headache, chills, muscle aches, and vomiting, which typically appear within two to 14 days after exposure. While many cases are mild, a small proportion can progress to severe, life-threatening complications such as Weil's syndrome, characterized by jaundice, renal failure, and hemorrhage. Early recognition and treatment with antibiotics are crucial for managing the infection and preventing severe outcomes.
