The Chikungunya/Zika Combo Rapid Test (Whole Blood/Serum/Plasma) is a rapid chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of antibodies to chikungunya Zika virus in human whole blood, serm or plasma.
Chikungunya and Zika are both arboviruses transmited primarily by *Aedes* mosquitoes and have re-emerged as significant global health threats . They share similar transmission potential in the same geographic territories. Clinically, both diseases present with very similar acute symptoms, including fever, joint pain (arthralgia), muscle pain (myalgia), rash, and conjunctivitis, which can make differentiation based on symptoms alone challenging.
However, key distinctions exist, Chikungunya is notably characterized by severe, persistent, and often debilitating joint pain that can last for months or years. In contrast, Zika infection typically causes milder acute symptoms but poses a unique and severe risk of congenital malformations, including microcephaly, when infection occurs during pregnancy. Furthermore, Zika can be transmitted through s exual contact, a route not associated with Chikungunya. Therefore, while overlapping in distribution and initial presentation, they require distinct clinical management and public health strategies.
